Voltalia is strengthening its presence in Europe with the City’s green energy deal in the UK.
On November 18, 2020, the governing body of the Square Mile signed a power purchase agreement with Voltalia to buy all the electricity produced by a new-build, 93 000-panel solar farm in Dorset for 15 years.
The deal, the first of its kind in the UK to be signed directly between a renewables producer and a public authority, will leverage Voltalia’s expertise to build the facility, while saving the City Corporation around 3 million GBP in energy costs.
This long-term, green energy supply deal forms part of the organization’s wider commitment to climate action. Its Climate Action Strategy, launched at the end of 2020, commits it to making the Square Mile net zero for carbon emissions by 2040 – 10 years earlier than Government goals.
